Faculty AI Workshop Series: Understanding AI Creativity: Prompting Smarter Outputs
While many experienced users are familiar with the concept of prompting AI tools, a good portion of these users don’t truly understand how these tools parse and tokenize our inputs to come to the outputs that they generate. This faculty-focused workshop bridges that gap, moving beyond basic chat interactions to uncover the mechanics of effective prompt engineering for higher education. Participants will learn how to structure precise instructions that optimize AI performance for both complex scholarly research and innovative classroom teaching. By deepening their knowledge of the mechanisms at play with AI prompting, educators will gain a better understanding of how to transform unpredictable AI responses into high-quality, reproducible outputs. This workshop will go over multiple tools, including Gemini and Scite. All faculty are welcome to join, regardless of their experience with AI, and are encouraged to bring any experiences or questions they may have to the discussion.
