Image Manipulation and Deep Fakes: the Wild West of Visual Communication Online

Visual literacy falls under the umbrella of information literacy in which librarians offer instruction. A natural consequence of today’s image-saturated society is the increasing use of visual materials in scholarly works, conference presentations, and everyday life as a communication tool. Technologies have advanced to the detriment of image credibility with deep fakes and other forms of visual manipulation challenging a new generation of critical consumers. This workshop will teach the necessary competencies to evaluate, use, and interpret visual materials critically rather than at face value.

This workshop has been approved for COMPASS and CONNECT career readiness points.
